We love Emery! We are so thankful she is in our family! Everyday is a new adventure and we find something else to fall in love with her about. We just can't get enough!

Gallbladder Surgery

This past Tuesday I had my gallbladder out. Emery has done really well going to bed about 11:30 but she decided she didn't want to go to sleep until 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. It was a short night's sleep as we were up at 4 getting ready to go to the surgical center; we had to be there at 5. Emery slept through us putting her in her car seat so that was nice. We got there at 5, I checked in and we waited. A while later they called me back and had my mom, Jared and Emery wait in the waiting room. When they brought them back they were surprised to find me already in the bed with my IV going and just waiting for surgery. (Jared was happy because he missed the IV but was totally expecting to come back and watch it put in). The anesthesiologist and the dr. came and talked to us, asked us if we had any questions and then told them they would let them know when I was done.
They wheeled me back into the OR and had me move onto the operating table (that was strange) then the anesthesiologist asked me if I wanted to have some fun and handed me the syringe to push in my own anesthesia... I kindly declined and he had the nurse do it. My ears started humming/buzzing and it wasn't long before I was asleep. Of course the next thing I remember is going in and out in the recovery room as I was waking up. Jared and my mom said the Dr. came out at 6:50 and told them he was done and they were pleasantly surprised as I wasn't even supposed to go in for 10 minutes-it took a lot of worrying off of their shoulders. My face itched soooo bad but no one could itch it right- it made me mad because I couldn't seem to figure out how to make my arms work to get it myself. Also my throat hurt because of the tube that was in it during surgery, the ice chips just weren't doing it for me.

It seemed like too quickly but they wanted me to get up and walk... I was still so tired and couldn't keep my eyes open! They got me up and I was dizzy but they got me walking straight to the bathroom-which is what they were hoping for. They then moved me into a different room to sit in a recliner. There was a little boy in that room too who was funny to listen to as he was coming out he said things like "Where is the anesthesiologist... I want to know how high I counted," "The anesthesiologist said I could do it.... I can be one..." and "I know I am not Yoda but can I use the force?" While we sat and listened my mom fed Emery (I had pumped and froze ahead because of pump and dump for 24 hours), and I was starving so they brought me chicken broth. After I kept the broth down for a while they let me have pudding-it tasted sooo good. I just kept wanting more but they made me wait each time to make sure I would keep it down.

I just wanted more pudding but they made me wait for it!

Sweet Emery sleeping on Granma.

We finally got to go home and I slept off and on in the recliner all day. I wanted to hold Emery but knew I couldn't because of 1. me being sooo tired and 2. it hurting my incisions that first day. It was nice though to know she was in good hands and have her still in the same room.

The next few days consisted of me walking, and sleeping, and feeding Emery when I finally could. Jared did video for a wedding on Friday so it was nice to have my mom around so we weren't home alone. We loved having my mom here to help out and we were sad to see her go this morning-but we will be in Idaho this week because Jared is doing video for another wedding on Saturday. :)

Priorities

Jared and I have had this discussion about once a day for the last sixish weeks. We just talk about how things do and don't matter as much anymore-not in a bad way but in a good way.

With things happening all around and life changing our priorities have really changed. We definitely have more of an eternal perspective. When things come up that bug us we vent about them but then remember that all that REALLY matters is our little family. Going in for surgery my mindset still wasn't about me but about my sweet Emery. I wanted everything to go okay and for there to not be any complications for HER sake... not mine. When I was coming out of it and could hear the nurses ask about her and how old she was I knew she was fine and I was comforted.

It is amazing how your life changes with the birth of a baby. My heart has grown in ways that words cannot describe and Jared feels the same way. My love for Jared has grown and my appreciation for the covenants we made in the temple has grown.

We see life in a completely new set of eyes now. The way we drive is different, when we eat is different, when we shower, get ready, everything. Our world revolves around our sweet Em but in a good way. She is what matters, our family is what matters.

Some of the best feelings come when people tell you how beautiful your baby is. When people ask about her, look at her and fall in love, anything to do with her. All we do is look back and tell them we couldn't agree more. We cannot even begin to explain it so all we do is look at each other often and say "I love her."

OnE mOnTh

I cannot believe that Emery is a whole month old! It has gone so fast!

We opted not to start shots for her in the hospital so we got her first shot yesterday at the dr. The nurse did great and it went so fast. Emery was fine for the first five seconds then her face got really red and she started building up to cry. It was sad but she calmed down within five minutes. We also had her weighed and she is up to ten pounds! :)

 (Yea for cell phone cameras!)
In the waiting room before shots.

Her response to her dad hiccuping.

She has been sleeping seven hours at night for the last five nights or so, that has been wonderful!

In her first month of life she has:
-Traveled to Idaho (twice)
-Celebrated the Fourth of July
-Visited Rexburg/the Rexburg temple
-Been held by a bajillion people
-Received a name and a blessing
-Met her cousins
-Blown out of a few diapers (including one in the car that got all over her clothes and carseat)
-Taken walks
-Gone shopping

It has been a busy month but this summer won't be slowing down any time soon!
Before school starts for Jared we still have:
-3 weddings Jared is doing videography for
-(Above includes) 2 trips to Idaho
-Gallbladder surgery
-Of course EBAY
-Cleaning house (lol my mom comes on Monday to help me get more on top of this-it is just more fun to sit and hold sweet Emery)

Enjoy the Journey.

"This is my FAVORITE"

If you don't know already-we are completely in love with our little Emery. Generally no matter what she does we say something like "Come look this is my favorite!" And then try to snap pictures of whatever it is she is doing. :)

She is so funny with her hands, we always find them doing silly things. This is just one that we see every so often. Another is every time I am nursing her she ends up flipping me off-we just laugh.
The other morning after she woke up I noticed not only did she get her arms out of her swaddling blanket (this is what she does every morning which in turn ends up waking her up) but she also got one arm out of her sac! I laughed and of course took a picture to remember it.

Enjoy the Journey.

Emery's Blessing

Jared blessed Emery on July 8 in the backyard of my Aunt's home.  Her blessing was beautiful and Heavenly Father has great things in store for her. Jared did a great job. It was a beautiful morning and we had a lot of family and friends there to support us. I am grateful that Heavenly Father has blessed us with this little miracle! We love that she came to our family.

These were the shoes I wore my blessing day.
The crochet blanket my mom made for her and in other pictures you can see a lace blanket. The lace blanket is from my mom's wedding veil and it was used on my blessing day too.
My mom and I made her dress (mostly my mom), but it turned out beautiful and I love it!

One proud dad-who is also wrapped around her finger.

Meeting Cousins

Emery got to meet her cousins on July 7th. They were so excited to meet her and loved her to pieces. It was so fun to see them love her and take turns holding her. Parley especially loved her and asked if he could take her home. :)

Parker was awesome and bounced her when she was crying and got her to fall asleep. When she was down for a nap he had me get out the tractor and trailer and asked if he could take Emery for a ride when she woke up. :)
Julia made sure to get her turns and calls her Heart Bulb-we have no idea why but that is her nick name from Julia.

Of course Chad and Lisa took their turns with her when they got a chance-but it didn't happen very often because their kids stole her every chance they got. :)
